The Ready, Set, Go! team is pleased to announce the publication of the 2013 EDI Neighborhood Profiles, a series of documents on early childhood development data in 44 New Orleans neighborhoods. The Early Development Instrument (EDI) is a population measure of how kindergarten age children are developing in communities, measuring five areas of early childhood development:
• Physical health and wellbeing
• Social competence
• Emotional maturity
• Language and cognitive skills
• Communication skills and general knowledge
EDI records data by neighborhood, ranking children as vulnerable, somewhat ready or very ready. OPEN is one of 34 sites around the country implementing data collection by EDI. The 2013 profiles represent coverage of over 65% of New Orleans kindergarten-age children, allowing community members to assess needs and direct resources where they’re needed most.
