What is the Family Leadership Training Institute?
Now on its fifth cohort, FLTI NOLA is a 20-week class for parents and children to learn about advocacy, media, government relations, fund development, and more. FLTI-NOLA is offered free of charge. In exchange, participants give the commitment of time reflected in class attendance and a community project. If FLTI is the right opportunity for you, please apply.

FLTI NOLA is part of a national initiative created to improve the lifelong health, safety and learning of children by helping you develop the leadership skills to make real change – in schools, communities and state and local governments. Participants explore their passions, strengths, beliefs and ideas, develop interpersonal and public communications skills, and gain enhanced understanding of government, media and civic relations.
Why FLTI?
No one knows what children need better than families. FLTI helps you get and remain informed, engaged and involved in your neighborhood, your school and your community, so all children can benefit from your ideas and passion. But kids aren’t the only ones who benefit. Graduates say what they learn about the world, and themselves makes for a life-changing experience. Since its inception, FLTI has helped more than 1,600 parents across the country make a difference by taking leadership roles for children in local Parent Teacher Organizations, Parental Involvement Committees, City Councils, and even Boards of Education.
FLTI creates a network of change agents for children in local parents’ schools, communities, and government. Through practical advocacy instruction, media training, and hands-on civic projects, participants emerge as capable advocates for themselves, their children, and the children of their community.
