Bill Purpose:
Alters the school discipline protocol to avoid out-of-school disciplinary measures. Says students should be assessed for trauma when considering discipline.
Bill Sponsor:
Barrow (D)
Committee:
Education
OPEN Comments:
OPEN supports lessening out-of-school discipline and considering that trauma can be a factor in students’ behavior. However, the current trauma assessment framework can be problematic, so we would support an amendment proposing the use of a different tool. There is also a version of this bill in the House: HB 663.
