Bill Purpose:
If a charter’s contract runs out, the board will vote on whether or not to renew it. In the past, the decision has been the superintendent’s and could only be overridden by a 2/3 majority veto by the board. This system caused controversy in November with the closing of Craig and Coghill charter schools.
